Due to regulations set out by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, these types of impounds can only be released Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., excluding statutory holidays.

Order of Release for vehicles impounded 30+ days

Vehicles can only be released to the registered owner. Full payment of all towing and impound fees will be due payable before your vehicle can be released.  Please refer to the letter you received from our office to confirm your release date and amount payable.  We accept cash, debit and credit cards.  
Before calling our office, or coming to pick up your vehicle, please have the following information ready;

For impounds 30 day or longer you will need to obtain an Order of Release from your local ICBC Driver's Services office.   We cannot release your vehicle without this form.

Three Day Impounds have to be on the lot for a minimum of 5 days.  The day it was impounded,  3 FULL 24 HOUR PERIODS, plus the day it gets released.

It states on the back of the blue sheet of paper that was given to the driver of the vehicle by police at the time of impound that PARTIAL DAYS DO NOT COUNT and the vehicle must remain on the lot for THREE FULL TWENTY FOUR HOUR PERIODS. The vehicle can only be legally released after this time. Due to regulations set out by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, these types of impounds can only be released Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., excluding statutory holidays. 

Example1:  Vehicles impounded Monday would be eligible for release after 8 am on Friday, 5 days later.
Example2: Vehicles impounded Wednesday would be eligible for release after 8 am on the following Monday,  6 days later.


3 day impounds

Seven Day Impounds have to be on the lot for a minimum of 9 days.  The day it was impounded,  7 FULL 24 HOUR PERIODS, plus the day it gets released.

It states on the back of the blue sheet of paper that was given to the driver of the vehicle by police at the time of impound that PARTIAL DAYS DO NOT COUNT and the vehicle must remain on the lot for SEVEN FULL TWENTY FOUR HOUR PERIODS. The vehicle can only be legally released after this time. Due to regulations set out by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, these types of impounds can only be released Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., excluding statutory holidays. 

Example1:  Vehicles impounded Monday would be eligible for release after 8 am on the Wednesday, 9 days later.
Example2: Vehicles impounded Friday would be eligible for release after 8 am on Monday,  10 days later.


7 day impounds

Thirty Day Impounds have to be on the lot for a minimum of 32 days.  The day it was impounded,  30 FULL 24 HOUR PERIODS, plus the day it gets released.

It states on the back of the blue sheet of paper that was given to the driver of the vehicle by police at the time of impound that PARTIAL DAYS DO NOT COUNT and the vehicle must remain on the lot for THIRTY FULL TWENTY FOUR HOUR PERIODS. The vehicle can only be legally released after this time. Due to regulations set out by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, these types of impounds can only be released Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., excluding statutory holidays. 

Example1:  Vehicles impounded Monday would be eligible for release after 32 days,  after 8am, excluding weekends or statutory holidays.


30 day impounds

Coquitlam towing does not regulate the laws regarding vehicle impounds.  We are obligated by law to enforce the Notice of Impoundment and to ensure all required documents have been provided prior to releasing a vehicle.  

For questions regarding your Vehicle Impound under the ILO 3, 7, 30 or 60 day program, please contact the Road Safety BC Office in Victoria at 1-250-356-6573 and press Option 1, Vehicle Impoundments.

ICBC administers the filing of appeals on behalf of the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles (OSMV) for vehicle impoundments longer than seven days. Important: You cannot appeal a three-day or a seven-day impoundment for impaired driving.

To file an appeal for impoundments 30 days or longer, go to any driver licensing office. Be sure to bring your Notice of Impoundment with you.
